“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for well being, and not for harm, to give you a future and a hope.’”  Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Harbor House and Elizabeth Pregnancy Services consists of two ministries.

Harbor House Maternity Home provides living quarters for single, pregnant teens (age 13-19) in a disciplined but loving Christian family atmosphere.  The programming is designed to help them to make mature and informed decisions for themselves and their future as well as for their baby.  They continue their high school education, take part in non-doctrinal teen Bible studies and develop independent living skills while living in the home.

Elizabeth Pregnancy Services is designed to support women of all ages who find themselves in an untimely or problem pregnancy.  EPS offers free pregnancy tests; adult referral housing; a 24-hour hot-line; factual information about pregnancy, abortion, and fetal development; an abstinence promotion program; adoption care and support; referrals to other pregnancy professionals; and a mentoring program called “Mom 2 Mom,” which also assists by providing free maternity and baby items based on a participation incentive system.

Harbor House and Elizabeth Pregnancy Services is a non-profit organization under the supervision of a Board of Directors.  Harbor House has been serving the needs of young women in crisis pregnancy since 1990.  Harbor House is located on East Fayette Street in Celina where once the Gibbons Hospital existed.  The main hospital building (to the west) has not yet been renovated and is currently used for storage.  The teens and the house parents live in the portion of the structure which used to be the maternity ward of the hospital and the Dr. John Gibbons, Sr. residence.  Elizabeth Pregnancy Services also operates from this location.  Harbor House can house up to six young women at a time and Elizabeth Pregnancy Services counselors have been working with 12 to 14 clients at a time on average.  Both ministries offer guidance and acceptance throughout the term of the clients’ pregnancies and many times even well beyond the baby’s birth.

Young women arrive at different times during their pregnancy; however, most residents stay at the home about five months, from the fourth month of pregnancy until the birth of their baby.  Historically, approximately 20% of the young women have placed for adoption and the rest have made the choice to parent.

Harbor House and Elizabeth Pregnancy Services accomplishes everything with only three (two full-time and one part-time) paid employees. The ministry carries a roster of over 100 active volunteers. Some can give only a few hours a year; some give 10 or more hours a week. All volunteers have indicated a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and to giving God all the glory for the work which they do.
