laundry
room
Each
girl has a specific day once a week on which to
do laundry. They get to learn the skills of stain
treatment and ironing along with sorting and washing
and drying techniques. The room includes a mop sink
and one of the two furnaces which heat the second
floor. Most cleaning products are donated.
bedrooms
There
are three bedrooms on the second floor for residents,
each quartering two girls. The beds, like the dining
room furniture, were built by Wendell Guerkink.
Each bed has drawers built into the pedestal. Each
girl also has her own nightstand (donated by Sauder,
Inc.). The single closet in the room is partitioned
but shared. Each of the bedrooms has it's own distinctive
look since local groups adopted them for decorating,
donating both time and materials.
The
top photo shows the north bedroom, also known as
"the blue room." It was done by Huntington College
students.
The bottom photo shows the southeast
bedroom, also known as "the pink room." This was
a joint effort between St. Teresa Catholic Church
and Barb Avery.
