"A Celebration of Life"
Sharing
Banquet 2005
Nearly 300 people turned out Tuesday, October 25 at Romer’s
Celina Westlake Facility to help raise money for Harbor House Maternity
Home and Elizabeth Pregnancy Services, as K & K Tours helped sponsor the 15th
annual “A Celebration of Life” Sharing Banquet, an event we subtitled "Love and Basketball."
Basketball is something that many people in Indiana eat, sleep and breathe. Coach Shaun headed up a winning Indiana high school basketball program, and he and his wife Cathy, a school teacher, had a great life but for one missing piece. They had prayed to God regularly asking Him to meet a desire that burned inside them for a child.
While Shaun and Cathy prayed about a family, another couple in a different Indiana town prayed about their 17-year-old daughter Jessica. Herb and DeAnna had trusted God to help them deal with their daughter’s teenage rebellion, and were shocked when they found out she was pregnant. Knowing that Jessica was not ready to take on the responsibilities of parenthood, abortion was briefly mentioned but then just as quickly dropped. But they needed an answer, and at that time they had it, although they didn’t yet realize it.
God was preparing each of them for a solution that involved Harbor House Maternity Home, LOVE... and BASKETBALL.
Returning as our special guest was recording
artist and adoptive father Dr. Jeffrey Kephart. Jeff has pastored a church in Middleburg
Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, for the past four years, and his musical talent
has led him to write many popular praise and worship songs, including one he
wrote specifically for the ministry of Harbor House entitled Harbor
in the Storm (see sidebar links). Jeff and his wife Donna have three children:
Sarah, 14, Daniel, 9, and Nathaniel, 2.
At the point of this writing, over $27,000 has been raised as a result of the Sharing Banquet.
Many
area businesses were willing to underwrite this year's Sharing Banquet so that people could attend
without paying admission. They included:

like a silent auction, or the year of the "non-banquet"
Sharing Banquet, where guests were invited to stay home
for simplicity sake. |
